Marcella Goheen is a seasoned producer, innovator, strategist, project manager and disability advocate for the vulnerable living in long term care facilities. With a career in theatre management and fundraising, Ms. Goheen worked closely with tap phenom Savion Glover for nearly 20 years. Traveling worldwide, Ms. Goheen managed projects including Classical Savion, If Trane Wuz Here, Bleecker Thingz, Holiday Spectacular, Savion Glover's OM, Solo in Time, Chronology of a Hoofer, and many more. She wrote and performed in The Maria Project, an Off-Broadway that addresses domestic violence and inter-generational trauma within Family systems, and of which, Mayor Michael Bloomberg proclaimed October 13, 2013 - The Maria Project Day.
Marcella's early career in special events fundraising yielded over twelve million dollars a year for health causes at Mount Sinai Hospital and NYU for efforts such as Fight Against Childhood Epilepsy and Seizures, Kids of NYU, and the NYU Child Study Center. Her passion for advocating for causes that are marginalized, and undocumented in history continue to drive her approach toward all projects, creating spaces and time for history to be discovered, uncovered and documented for change.
During Covid-19, Ms. Goheen utilized her project management skills and Founded www.essentialcarevisitor.com for the Essential Care Visitor who was separated from their loved one living in long term care facilities. Ms. Goheen's widely publicized New York Times article about the vulnerable inspired the New York State unprecedented Essential Care Visitor Bill, which was signed into public health law on March 29, 2021, in New York State by Governor Andrew Cuomo, through her tireless public advocacy, press and rallies. Ms. Goheen’s renown Supreme Court case was the only of its kind in New York State - and enabled Ms. Goheen to execute
neuro-care as an essential care visitor for her husband, to treat his rare condition during the COVID-19 lock down. Marcella testified at the July, 2021 New York State Senate Hearings on the state of long term care and the chronic, plaguing care staffing issues that permeate the healthcare system. She currently sits on three subcommittees (Informal Caregiving, Health and Wellness, Long Term Services) for Governor Hochul's Master Plan for Aging, contributing to reform and transformation for dignified aging systems for the elderly and disabled New Yorker. Over the past year, Marcella joined the team at The John & Alice Coltrane Home, as their first Executive Director to help shepherd the Home toward a long awaited opening, procuring a $1.75 million JumpSmart Grant within eleven months of her tenure from the Suffolk County Economic Development Fund, inspired through the strategic implementation of the 2023 Elevate Arts Series illuminating the local impact of the global Coltrane legacy through community engagement. She received a proclamation for this work from the Suffolk County State Legislature for her 'passion for the arts and community'.
Goheen is an avid reader, driver, humorist, Jazz listener, lover of helping others and writer. Her most proud honor is daily serving her husband, Robert, who lives with a rare neuro-motor disability that is unprecedented in history and still has no medical name. Ms. Goheen Co-Chairs the Isabella Geriatric Center Family Council at her husband’s community - a 705 bed long term care facility in Washington Heights, New York. She daily helps families nationwide to advocate for innovative care models for the vulnerable. She has appeared in many press pieces globally about the essential care visitor, that she believes is vital to achieve dignified collaborative care according to the Federal Resident Rights Law (483.10). Ms. Goheen is one of ten children, and attributes any wisdom she can offer to her late Uncle Frank, a Hopi Elder; her Dad in Heaven, a spiritual giant of kindness - and her Mom ~ who is a legendary long term care hero, Founder of Long Term Care Consultants in the 1970s.
